Historical Land Marks

One more reason you should come to Staridge Hotel is to tour some of our landmarks one being Lake Simbi where the flamingoes are back and they long to be domesticated in homes! According to the Luo myth, they are the domestic fowls that the Lady of the Lake (Nyanam) turned into wild birds as the Simbi village was being sunk as punishment for her slighting. But they have a photographic memory of where they came from, and so return often to lake Simbi and the outlying villages. Come see for your self.

Visiting of Game Parks

Dubbed the "Last Retreat of the Roan Antelope", Ruma National Park is the only terrestrial park in Nyanza Province. The park protects the only indigenous population of rare roan antelopes within Kenya

The Lambwe valley’s tsetse-fly-ridden bush, protected as Ruma National Park, is one of the few places in Kenya where you can see Jackson’s hartebeest and two extremes of the antelope family: the miniature oribi and the enormous, horse-like roan , which is found only here. Roans are extremely rare, and the best place to see them is among the park’s western grasslands, which are often hit by community fires that spread into the park from the west – they like the fresh grazing on burnt ground. Ruma also has about seventy beautiful Rothschild giraffe which aren’t too hard to see above the tall grass.
